Free Parking and Metro Rail Farecards
As a general rule, the Federal Government does not subsidize an employee's cost of commuting to or from work. However, there is a specific statutory exception to the rule. The IRS permits a $65 per month "de minimis" exclusion from fringe benefit taxation for public transit passes provided to employees who commute via public transportation.
All BEP employees who commute to work on public transportation shall be eligible to participate in this program so long as they are not listed on a Federally-subsidized motor vehicle parking permit, or as a member of a commute carpool or vanpool, at BEP or any other Federal agency. BEP will provide eligible employees $65 in Metrocheks (farecards).
The Bureau has made available to BEP employees on-premises and a satellite parking facility at the following locations:
On-Site:
On-premise parking at the Bureau - employees granted on-premises parking privileges in the Bureau Parking Program will park by area and shift on a first come first serve basis. On-premises parking assignments are ONLY VALID during regularly assigned work shifts.
Off-Site:
The Portals III - located directly across the street from our Annex building.
