Treasurer of the United States

Anna Escobedo Cabral was nominated on July 22, 2004, by President Bush to serve as the 42nd Treasurer of the United States. She was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 20, 2004.

Prior to taking office, Treasurer Cabral was Director of the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Latino Initiatives. From 1999 to 2003, she served as President and CEO of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Treasurer Cabral's public service includes having served as Deputy Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and Executive Staff Director of the U.S. Senate Republican Conference Task Force on Hispanic Affairs.

Professor Allen Weinstein was confirmed as the ninth Archivist of the United States in February 2005. Weinstein, a former Professor of History who has held positions at Boston University, Georgetown University, and Smith College, is the author of numerous essays and books, including The Story of America (2002), The Haunted Wood: Soviet Espionage in America-The Stalin Era (1999), Perjury: The Hiss-Chambers Case (1978 & 1997), and Freedom and Crisis: An American History (3rd edition, 1981).

From 1985 to 2003, he served as President of The Center for Democracy, a non-profit foundation based in Washington, DC that he created in 1985 to promote and strengthen the democratic process. His international awards include the United Nations Peace Medal (1986), The Council of Europe's Silver Medal (twice, in 1990 and 1996), and awards from the presidents of Nicaragua and Romania for assistance in their countries' democratization processes. His other awards and fellowships have included two Senior Fulbright Lectureships, an American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship, the Commonwealth Fund Lectureship at the University of London, and a Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Fellowship.

Michael Lambert is the Assistant Director in the Division of Reserve Bank Operations and Payment Systems at the Federal Reserve Board. In this capacity, Mr. Lambert represents the Board of Governors on Federal Reserve System groups that address complex issues relating to both domestic and international distribution of cash. Mr. Lambert also serves on the plenary committee for the Central Bank Counterfeit Deterrence Group (CBCDG), under the auspices of the G-10 governors, which identifies solutions for combating digital counterfeiting threats. Mr. Lambert is also a member of an interagency committee that makes recommendations to the Secretary of the Treasury regarding currency designs and counterfeit deterrence features.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Lambert served in numerous positions at the Board of Governors, most recently as Cash Manager in the Division of Reserve Bank Operations and Payment Systems, as well as in the areas of Human Resources, International Finance, and Banking Supervision and Regulation.

Larry R. Felix was named as the Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing on January 11, 2006, by Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snow. As Director, Mr. Felix is responsible for the overall operations of the Bureau in the production of U.S. currency and other government securities and documents.

Prior to his appointment as Director, Mr. Felix served as the Bureau's Deputy Director. During the 13 years that he has spent at the agency he has served as its Manager of Marketing, Chief of External Relations and Associate Director for Technology, and chaired the Inter-agency Currency Design (ICD) taskforce, a group responsible for recommending technical enhancements to U.S. currency design.

Michael P. Merritt was appointed Deputy Assistant Director of the Office of Investigations on August 7, 2005. His areas of responsibility include the Criminal Investigative Division, the Investigative Support Division, the Forensic Services Division, and all foreign offices for the United States Secret Service. Mr. Merritt's experience of living overseas for 20 years and his fluency in five languages serve him well in his current position. Mr. Merritt served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Paris Field Office from 2003 to 2005.

Mr. Merritt began his Secret Service career in 1987 as a Special Agent assigned to the Dallas Field Office. He was later transferred to the San Juan Resident Office, where he served from 1989 - 1994, after which he was assigned to the Presidential Protective Division for five years. Following his protective assignment, he served at the Secret Service James J. Rowley Training Facility for two years. Later, Mr. Merritt served as the Executive Assistant to the Director of the Secret Service from 2001 - 2003 before assuming his supervisory role in Paris, France.
