What is the government doing to help retailers, financial institutions, and other businesses train their employees so that they know about the new currency as it is introduced? (show answer) As part of an ongoing public education program, the government is providing training materials for businesses to use when training their cash handlers about changes to the currency. To date, more than 78 million pieces of training materials have been distributed in more than 20 languages domestically and internationally, including brochures, posters, training videos and CD-ROMs identifying new changes and security features for redesigned $5, $10, $20, and $50 bills. Materials can be ordered online and are available for download from the Materials to Download and Order section of this Web site. The government will update educational and training materials with each new denomination introduced. These educational materials are available both in the United States and internationally and are particularly important to cash handling businesses that want to train their employees and avoid any confusion with new currency at the point of sale. What should cash handlers and the general public do if they receive a counterfeit bill? (show answer) If you think you've received a counterfeit bill, do not return it to the passer. Delay the person if possible, without causing harm to yourself. If you live in the United States, immediately notify the local police or the U.S. Secret Service; if you live outside the U.S., notify the proper authorities. Note the passer's physical characteristics, and write down the license plate number and description of the vehicle when possible. Safeguard the bill and release it only to the proper authorities.
