Washington, DC Tours

Bureau of Engraving and Printing Main Building in Washington, D.C.

Located in the heart of the Nation's Capital, the BEP's Washington, DC Tour and Visitor Center is a great place to learn all about U.S. paper currency.  You can see millions of dollars being printed as you walk along the gallery overlooking the production floor!  The free 40-minute experience includes an introductory film and gallery tour of the production process.  The visitor center includes exhibits and currency products for sale.

 

The Tour and Visitor Center is closed on weekends, Federal holidays, and the week between Christmas and New Years Day.

 

The BEP is a federal government organization and adheres to closure, late arrival or early dismissal guidance issued by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).  OPM determines the Federal agency operating status for the Washington, DC area.

Peak Season: March – August
Free tickets are required from the first Monday in March until the last Friday in August.  The ticket booth is located on Raoul Wallenberg Place, and opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes when all tickets have been distributed for the day.  The BEP also offers extended hours which typically begin on the first Monday following the start of the Cherry Blossom Festival, which will be March 23, 2015 this year.  Tours run every 15 minutes from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with advanced reservations held for large groups between 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

 

The Visitor Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (door closes at 3:00 p.m.) in March, and 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (door closes at 6:00 p.m.), April through August.

 

Group Tours
Groups larger than 10 guests must reserve a group tour in advance directly with the tour office.  The BEP's group reservation request form must be filled out completely and submitted by the leader of that group via fax, email or mail.  The forms are available below. 
 
 
Once requests have been submitted, we will respond to them within one week.  To inquire about the status of a group request, please contact the tour office via phone, email or fax.  The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is closed on weekends, Federal Holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Tour closings are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions.

Congressional Tours

The BEP grants special requests for tours made through the office of your local United States Senator or Representative. These tours take place Monday through Friday at 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. April through August, Congressional tours also run every 15 minutes from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Please contact your local United States Senator or Representative for more information. Policies

Cameras are allowed in the facility, but their use in the tour gallery is prohibited.

 

Visitors must pass through a metal detector and belongings will be screened before entering the building.

 

Strollers are allowed in the facility, but may not be taken on the tour.

 

Anyone found in violation of BEP policies as written or explained by the tour guides, will be escorted off the premises by a police officer. Visitors must follow the direction of the BEP Police while on BEP property.
